Air India men, Railways eves clinch national crowns, Haryana junior eves corner glory

Air India defended their senior national men’s crown riding on a splendid hat-trick from Gaganpreet Singh to humble Comptroller and Auditor General of India XI (CAG) 4-1 in the final of the 4th edition at Lucknow.

The CAG, who sprang a huge surprise showing the tournament exit door to Railways in the semifinals, came a cropper against the airmen who troubled their defence to no end with their four-pronged forwardline of Shivendra Singh, Arjun Halappa, Sameer Dad and Armaan Qureshi
Gaganpreet Singh scored twice in the first half to give Air India a two-goal cushion at half-time.

Gaganpreet completed his hat-trick early in the second half before CAG responded with a goal from Dhyan Singh. Osaf Ur Rehman put the celebratory scenes in places netting the fourth goal in the dying moments of the game.
Hosts Uttar Pradesh edged out Railways 4-2 to claim the third spot.

Meanwhile, defending champions Haryana had to settle for a runners-up finish in the senior national women’s final as they went down 0-4 to Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in Bhopal. Vandana Katariya scored once in each half, while captain TH Chanchan and Poonam Rani scored the other goals.

Haryana made amends for their runners-up finish winning the national junior women’s crown pipping Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-0 in the final played in Mysore. Narinder Kaur and skipper Neha Goyal scored for the winners.
