India move up one spot to 10th in latest FIH World Hockey Rankings


The Indian senior men’s hockey team moved up one spot to be placed 10th in the recently released FIH World Hockey Rankings.  The Blueshirts were languishing at the 11th spot for a fairly long time before advancing upwards.

However, the Indian women’s team slipped one place to 13th despite an impressive showing in the 9th Asia Cup in Ipoh.

Germany, Australia, Netherlands and England continue to retain the number one, two, three and four positions. Belgium, who have emerged as the most improved side over the last twelve months, climbed five spots to be placed fifth.Korea continued to retain the number six spot.

New Zealand dropped two places to 7th spot, while Spain who jointly occupied the sixth spot with Korea when the last rankings were announced, fell two spots to be at 8th position.  Pakistan retained its 8th position along with Spain. Argentina fell one notch to 11th position, while South Africa held the twelfth position.

Meanwhile in the women’s section, Olympic champions Netherlands toppled Argentina to bag the top spot. The Las Leonas are placed second. England advanced one spot to take the third spot while New Zealand fell one spot to be placed fourth.

Australia moved up one spot to be placed fifth while Germany slipped one place to hold the sixth spot.

Among the Asian nations, China and Korea occupy the seventh and eight positions respectively. Japan and USA are placed ninth and tenth respectively.
