Apprehensions about Ranchi Stadium being ready for 2nd Hockey India League

The Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi grabbed the eyeballs when home franchise Ranchi Rhinos lived up to the expectations of their fans and slugged out Delhi Waveriders to win the inaugural Hero Hockey India League (HIL) crown.

In fact, the organizers of the Hockey India League scheduled both the semifinals and the final in Ranchi given the huge crowd support over there. And as the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League crown gets underway in a month’s time, there are apprehensions that the Astroturf Hockey Stadium is suffering from lack of maintenance.

Apparently, most of the mastlights at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium are non-functional. It is learnt that Jharkhand Hockey Federation is working on getting the Stadium tournament-ready before the 2nd HIL begins from January 23.

The 2nd HIL which will feature six teams – including the newly-inducted Kalinga Lancer – will run till February 23, 2014.

It may be worth recalling that six teams were scheduled to play in the inaugural season, but only five teams took part as the Bengaluru franchise went unsold.
