10th Junior Men’s World Cup: Canadian team embarks on philanthropic activities

Winning ambition is synonymous with most teams featuring in the 10th Hero Men’s Junior World Cup in New Delhi, but for Canadian team the trip to India is just more than just taking part and faring well in the big-ticket event.

The Redshirts, of course like the rest of the fifteen teams wants to deliver a decent performance in the marquee event, but are not losing out on an opportunity to embark on philanthropic activities during their stay.

The Canadian junior men’s hockey team will be donating sports equipment to India-based Bua Sa Hockey Village Indien, a German charity that uses hockey to teach English to Indian children.

The Canadian team players have brought various sports equipment like goalie gear, sticks, pads, balls, uniforms and bags, which will be donated to Bua Sa Hockey Village Indien. This gesture from the Canadian team would go a long way in serving the game well in the country.

The 2011 Junior Men’s World Cup is Canada’s first appearance since featuring in  the 2001 edition.

At the ongoing World Cup, Canada are out of quarterfinal contention having lost all their Pool C matches. They lost 4-7 to Korea in their first match before subsequently going down fighting to hosts 2-3 after a pulling off a sensational early goal. The Canadians suffered a 0-7 pasting at the hands of the Netherlands in their last league tie and will now feature in the classification matches for positions 13-16.
