Hawke's Bay Hockey Festival: Argentina hockey eves virtually seal final berth

2010 world champions Argentina hockey eves chalked up their fourth win on the trot, easing past seventh ranked China 2-0 to virtually seal their place in the final of Hawke's Bay Hockey Festival in Hastings. The Las Leonas, ranked second in the world, rode on a brace from Carla Rebecchi to log 12 points from four games with their final league tie against Japan only of academic interest.

Fourth ranked Australia stayed in the hunt for a final berth pipping eighth ranked Korea 5-3 to script their third win in the tournament, while hosts New Zealand swamped ninth ranked Japan 6-2 – this second win from four games. Australia have 9 points from four games, while fifth-ranked New Zealand have six points from four games.

Both Australia and New Zealand face off in their final league tie –even if the Black Sticks upstage the Hockeyroos, it may not be enough to reach the final as the former enjoy a better goal average.

Japan are the only team to remain winless in the tournament. The final will be played on Sunday.
