Black Sticks eves pip China 3-2 in first Test

New Zealand hockey eves rallied to beat China 3-2 in the first hockey Test at the Taupo Hockey Centre. The hosts started on a bright note but leaked an early goal against the run of play after China scored through Jiaojiao De.

The spirits of home crowd soared when Emily Naylor deflected home a Rhiannon Dennison’s penalty corner flick. Mengyu Wang converted a penalty corner to ensure China went into half-time with a 2-1 advantage.

Sophie Cocks brought the Black Sticks back into the contest in the second stanza before Jordan Grant churned out the match-winner.

It may be pertinent to mention that New Zealand had lost to Korea by identical margins of 3-4 to concede defeat in the two Test series.
