Indian World Cup squad return home

The Sardar Singh-led Indian men’s hockey squad returned home on Tuesday morning after finishing 9^th in the 2014 World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. 8^th ranked India claimed the 9^th spot after sweeping aside 7^th ranked Korea 3-0 in the 9-10^th place classification tie. It may be noted that India had finished 8^th at the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi.

India lost to 5^th ranked Belgium 2-3 in their opening match before going down 1-2 to 4^th ranked England. India drew 10^th ranked Spain 1-1 before suffering a 0-4 loss at the hands of top-ranked Australia. India wrapped up their league engagements whipping 13^th ranked Malaysia 3-2.

India’s next assignment will be the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which is slated to be commence in Glasgow, Scotland next month.
