Indian World Cup squad return home


The Sardar Singh-led Indian men’s hockey squad returned home on Tuesday morning after finishing 9th in the 2014 World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. 8th ranked India claimed the 9th spot after sweeping aside 7th ranked Korea 3-0 in the 9-10th place classification tie. It may be noted that India had finished 8th at the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi.
India lost to 5th ranked Belgium 2-3 in their opening match before going down 1-2 to 4th ranked England. India drew 10th ranked Spain 1-1 before suffering a 0-4 loss at the hands of top-ranked Australia. India wrapped up their league engagements whipping 13th ranked Malaysia 3-2.
India’s next assignment will be the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which is slated to be commence in Glasgow, Scotland next month.
