Disjointed India lose 0-4 to Australia

The highs of India chalking up their first World Cup a couple of days back, was brought down to earth by defending champions Australia, who handed a 4-0 defeat in Hague.

The Kookaburras pressed on the accelerator and had sewn up a four-goal lead in the first twenty two minutes of play, pushing India on the ropes, from which the latter never recovered for the entire duration of the match.

Kieran Govers opened the scoring with a field goal in the 27th minute before Chris Ciriello made the most of two short corners while Jeremy Hayward profited from another set-piece.

The Aussies suffered a setback when skipper Mark Knowles was hit on the neck after being pushed by SV Sunil and was stretchered off.

Australia led 4-0 at the break and looked good to add more to their tally, but India kept them at bay.

The Indian attacks lacked conviction and the scoreline was never in doubt as Australia strolled to a 4-0 win. India will now play for positions 9-12 after Spain dashed their hopes of playing for positions 5-8 whipping Malaysia 5-2.
