New Zealand women’s hockey team warmed up nicely for the upcoming Commonwealth Games clinching the Women’s Four Nations Hockey Tournament being played in Dublin, sailing past 15th ranked Ireland 3-0 in the final.
The Black Sticks – ranked fourth in the world – took the lead through Krystal Forgesson as Ireland strived to stay competitive after their 2-9 drubbing to the same opponents in their tournament opener. New Zealand clearly looked head and shoulders over Ireland and all pre-match predictions were beginning to look true when Krystal Forgesson again got her name into the scoresheet to help the Black Sticks sew up a 2-0 lead close to half-time.
Trailing 0-2 at half-time, Ireland needed a big effort to harbour any aspirations of coming back into the match, but New Zealand were in no mood to give them any leeway, striking for the third time through Sophie Cocks in the 60th minute to trigger celebrations in their dug-out.
New Zealand have
been devastating in the tournament, slamming as many as 29 goals from four
games – they walloped Chile 10-0, trounced Canada 7-0 besides their opening 9-2
spanking of Ireland.
20th ranked Chile took the third spot beating 22nd ranked Canada 3-0.
