World number three Netherlands pipped fourth ranked England 3-1 in the opening game of the 2014 Ergo Masters Four Nationals men’s hockey tourney being played in Dusseldorf, Germany. The tournament also features second ranked Germany and fifth ranked Belgium.
Mink van der Weerden converted a penalty corner to give the Dutch the early advantage before Billy Bakker doubled it close to half-time.
Simon Mantell brought England back into the contest early in the second half, but the Orange brigade garnered the insurance goal from Mink van der Weerden – his second PC conversion – midway through the second half to shape up his team’s 3-1 win.
In the other game of the day, Germany were held to a 2-2 draw by Belgium.
